My S60T5 2001 has 75000m

My transmission was working fine until yesterday morning.
First cold day of the year! When starting the car, I get now a very rough shifting from 2 to 3 !!!!! The balance is ok....no slipping also!

I check the oil level ok .The oil is a bit dirty ( I was thinking to replace it for a while now!!!). But Volvo said lifetime oil !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Replace it only if you have problems!!!!!!!!

Anyway it could not be that causing this problem so suddenly!!!
I disconnected the battery for few hours and reconnect it back... (to try to check if it is not the TCM sofware causing that)...

The 2 to 3 hard shifting still there but it seems to be a little bit softer....
Volvo dealer can only check my transmission software in 2 weeks....
So , I need your expertise!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance

Hello !

Welcome on this board.

1/ Could you please first introduce yourself in the "présentation des membres" section ? It's a tradition here, to introduce oneself before the first post on the board. Thanks !

2/ It's a french-speaking board, however, someone will probably give you tips about your problem, but don't blame us if our english is bad ... (could even be great if you understand french ! Wink )

3/ Unfortunately, I can not help you with your S60 hard shift, but one will help you here. Although I think a preventive draining of your oil could be helpful, maybe ; at least, it's worth trying. But specialists will tell.

Hello Volvodriver !
well if u hve a problem like quoted above, u should think about to replace ur ATF. U have 50/50 chance that it will solve ur problem and its the cheapest way to go. Do u hve an arrow flashing on ur dashboard when driving ?

Thanks to all of you for your help ......
My transmission serial number start with 01E.....
I'd just finish my flush.....
It improves a bit (all is smoother) but I still get the 2-3 non-smooth shifting !
Now my last chance will be a software upgrade!!
Do you think I could add something in the oil also?

Before to go with any software-upgrade, check again fluid level (its tricky so do it serval times to confirm it is right) and condition (should be cherry red now not brown, clear not cloudy, and it should smell like fresh ATF not burnt) ?? Also make sure that you got the right oil very important as you know.
Then, go to a Volvo dealer to have checked and cleared error codes, check this out. A jerky transmission shifting also can be due to a bad spark-plug. Finally if you still experience those symptoms, a 2-3 gear slippage could also be due to a bad Torque Lock-up solenoide in your Valve-body. Personally I do not recommend aditifs which certainly will modify your ATF characteristics and can give prejudical issues to your tranny.
For further discussion on this subject you may report your thread to

Thats an english-speaking Volvo-Forum, a good one. I´ll be there as ??phaseone?
